“The ice was here,the ice was there,the Ice was all round:it cracked and growled,and roared and howled,like noises in a swound.”

The words in red represent repetition and it is describing that the ice goes on miles away.

The words in green show iambic meter by creating Rythm and flow in the writing by having the right choice of words.

The words underlined show rhyme keeping consistency in the writing.

“The fair breeze blew,the white foam flew,the furrow followed free:we were the first that ever burst into that silent sea.”

The words highlighted in blue are examples of alliteration using some aspects of iambic meter.

1. Sailing across the sea,the mast stood tall and proud
   carrying the sail.In the distance,a figure appeared to be hollo.Finally it was raining we were so thirsty that we collected the dew off of the edges in the vessel.It began to hail and the prow of the ship became faded.Suddenly,I felt a heavy pang.As I was in some pain,I perched along the side of the boat.Bang! the sailor dropped dead,one of the crew members grabbed a shroud and it created a dismal mood.

Mast: A tall upright post  on a vessel carrying a sail or sails.

Bassoon: A musical instrument in the double reed family typically used to play music written in the bass.

Kirk: A church of Scotland developed by the Church of England.

Dew: Tiny drops of water that form on cool surfaces at night.

Shroud:A length of cloth or garment that a dead person is wrapped for burial.

Perch:To alight or rest on something.

Vespers:A service of evening prayer in the Divine Office of the Western Christian Church.

Hollo:Used to attract attention.

Fathom:A unit of length equal to six feet ,chiefly used in reference to the depth of water.

Withered:To become dry and shrivelled.

Prow:The painted part of the ship;the bow.

Sloping:Inclined from a horizontal or vertical line.

Aye:Said to express assent;yes.

Aver:To state or assert to be the case.

Wretch:An unfortunate or unhappy person.

Dismal:Causing a mood of gloom or depression.

Ghastly:Causing great horror or fear.

Hoar:Greyish white; grey or grey-haired with age.

Pang:A sudden sharp pain or painful emotion.

Attire:Clothes, especially fine or formal ones.

1. Under the boat the Mariner heard a voice.

2. The Mariner killed the albatross that the spirit under the sea loved.
3. The mariner became unconscious and was picked up by a pilot.
4. He started to move his pips and the pilot got scared.
5. Then the ship sank sown like lead.

1. The mariner spoke to the softer voice asking it what was making the ship so fast as there was no wind or waves.
2. The mariner could not stop staring at the the dead bodies and his eyes were so focused on the dead crew members that he couldn’t look up to pray.
3. As the mariner woke he was aware that the ship was sailing at a gentle wind.
4. The boat sailed smoothly and the wind was only blowing on the Mariner across his cheeks.
5. The Mariner saw something as he looked across the ocean and he was not sure what it was.

1. At one point the spirit that loved the albatross that the killed bird began to rock the boat.
2. The mariner became unconscious due to the boat rocking.
3. As the Mariner became conscious he began to hear two voices one was softer than the other.
4. The body of his brother’s son stood by him and said nothing.
5. Sweet sounds passed through the dead crews body.
