Mast: A tall upright post  on a vessel carrying a sail or sails.

Bassoon: A musical instrument in the double reed family typically used to play music written in the bass.

Kirk: A church of Scotland developed by the Church of England.

Dew: Tiny drops of water that form on cool surfaces at night.

Shroud:A length of cloth or garment that a dead person is wrapped for burial.

  2. The Mariner killed the albatross that the spirit under the sea loved.

  1. The mariner spoke to the softer voice asking it what was making the ship so fast as there was no wind or waves.
  2. The mariner could not stop staring at the the dead bodies and his eyes were so focused on the dead crew members that he couldn’t look up to pray.

  2. The Mariner attempted to pray but was cursed so he couldn’t laugh or speak.
  3. When the dead crew mates passed away their eyes were locked onto the mariner as they thought he killed them.
  4. The guilty stare the crew gave to mariner haunted him so he couldn’t sleep or even die.
  5. There were water snakes swimming alongside the ship and he blessed them unaware despite their ugliness.
  6. The albatross fell off the mariner’s neck and sank deep into the sea and he was now able to pray the curse was broken.
  7. ‘I closed my lids,and kept them close,and the balls like pulses beat.’It means that his eyes felt like it was beating.
